The Sims 3: World Adventures is a mobile version of the popular strategy game, in which you need to take your sim on a voyage of discovery across the globe.

In The Sims 3: World Adventures you get to explore China, Egypt, France and the United States looking for new experiences, meeting local people and learning new things. The element of building up your sim as a person is still a major part of the game, but this version introduces a bunch of new goals, objects, professions, and personality traits.

Graphically, The Sims 3: World Adventures is simplistic, but there's enough detail there to ensure that everything is very clear. That is, aside from the menu icons which are very difficult to make out.

The controls in The Sims 3: World Adventures are quite fiddly, especially if you're using a non-touchscreen device. They involve moving a cursor around the screen to view your surroundings, then double tapping on a spot to move your sim there.

Note that to play The Sims 3: World Adventures you'll need a data connection because the game serves ads to you from the internet intermittently throughout the play.

Iron Man 3 is an action game that casts you in the role of the Marvel superhero in an adventure based around the third film in the series.

Playing as Tony Stark, your aim in Iron Man 3 is to crush the enemy AIM forces around the world. To do this you must run, jump and fly your way through various levels, taking out the bad guys as you go. You can upgrade your skills, weapons and guns as you progress through the game to make you even stronger.

There are 10 levels within the Iron Man 3 game for Java, set across five different worlds. All of them are fairly big and there's enough variety within the gameplay of each to keep you occupied, even though some of the earlier levels are quite pedestrian, with little action.

How to play the game

Iron Man 3 is a 2D side-scrolling game which uses an on-screen joystick (or buttons for non-touch screen) to move around. You can run sideways along the ground or fly up into the sky by pressing up, then moving around up there with the directional buttons. There are separate buttons for boosting and shooting.

Testing on a Nokia Asha 311 we found the controls to be quite fiddly and it's hard to be very precise when the on-screen d-pad is so small. With practice you get used to it, but it's still less than perfect.

Hollywood presentation

For a Java-based game, Iron Man 3, looks pretty good. Lots of assets from the movie are used in the menu and cut screens and the characters are pretty true to how they are on screen. Of course, this feature phone version of Iron Man 3 is nowhere as polished as the Android or iOS versions of the game (which follow a completely different format, incidentally).

Iron Man 3 doesn't break any new ground in the world of side-scrolling adventure games but fans of the movie should like it.

Comcraft is a Minecraft type game for Java cell phones, where you can build anything you want with 3D blocks. Comcraft works on all Nokia / S40 touch screen cell phones and also on classic cell phones.

In Comcraft, just as in Minecraft, you play in "worlds", areas where you can create constructions with various blocks (in Comcraft there are over 20 different ones). The game is always viewed in landscape mode, which is broader and more comfortable.

The Comcraft controls are simple: arrows for moving in all directions and two buttons to look up and down. In touch screen phones, such as Asha or XpressMusic, you touch the screen to place blocks or move the camera.

Although Comcraft is still under development, you can already create entire worlds with it. These worlds are stored in the internal memory or SD card. But keep in mind you should not expect PC quality.
